Patient Education

Using an approved curriculum, such as Med Instead of Meds or Steps to Health, NC Cooperative Extension delivers nutrition education to PhytoRx patients that will support the inclusion of fresh produce in their diet.

  • NC Cooperative Extension provides nutrition education to the patients in the PhytoRx program, delivered by Family and Consumer Science agents.
  • For example, the patient participants in the program may receive seven in-person or virtual lessons on the Mediterranean diet through the Med Instead of Meds program.
  • These lessons typically include cooking demonstrations and food tastings to reduce any knowledge or cultural barriers that may exist so that participants are confident in preparing foods in a healthier way.
